RAMPANT MARKLAND GIVE FARNWORTH BAPTISM OF FIRE

Last year’s Bolton league runners-up Markland Hill A started their season by dismissing the first challenge of the campaign from promoted Farnworth A.

Markland Hill had their usual strong and experienced team of Tracy Walker, Ruth Flatman, Kathy Wain-Mahoney, Roger Taylor, Andrew Tatum and Bill Hamblett, and showed no mercy in an 18-0 romp over a side with two promising young players in Adam Rowan and Jamie Allen.

Markland Hill C, who have come down from A Section, had a 12-6 win against Deane A which did not reflect the closeness of some of the games.

Deane won all the Ladies’ doubles games, with the experienced pairing of Janice Jackson and Teresa Gough, and Gough and Jean Smith having comfortable wins.

With inter-club clashes throughout the week Forrest Badminton Club could not see the wood for trees as Forrest A beat Forrest B, Forrest C - relegated to B Section - beat Forrest D who were promoted as last season’s C Section champions.

Hawkshaw C beat Sharples B 11-7 in another match where the score did not reflect how close the match was.
