Oakgate B were comprehensively beaten by in-form Bury in Section A of the Bolton Badminton League, losing 16-2 to the division’s fourth placed side. Bury’s number one couple, Nicola Duerden and Oliver Gregory, opened up with 21-16 and 21-18 victories over Steve Warren and Sandra Warren. Grace Krzempek and Clint Gibbs, Bury’s second couple, then won two very closely fought games 21-17 and 22-20 against Oakgate’s Joanne Schofield and Karl Gibbons. Oakgate’s Iqbal Khan and Gibbons managed two very good wins of 21-13 and 21-14 against Gordon Mitchell and Gregory. But Bury’s dominance continued as they won the final four games with Susannah Penney and Krzempek, taking both their games 21-19 and 21-15 from Michelle Parkinson and Warren. It was a similar scoreline in the last men’s games with Mitchell and Gibbs taking the final games against Khan and Warren 21-15 and 21-16.
In D Section, Forrest G won their mid table battle with Moorside D 14-4 at Bolton Arena. The first four games went to ninth-placed Forrest with first couple Lauren Gittins and Chris Latham winning both their mixed 21-12 and 21-13 against Moorside’s Helen Williamson and Steve Barton. Forrest’s second partnership of Lauren Colman and Andy Worthington won two exciting games to 22-20 against Cathy Hunt and Brian Bainbridge. Moorside, who are 11th place, had more joy with their third couple, Jane Whelan and Jamie Belton, who split their games, winning the first to 21-17 before Forrest’s Drshna Vara and Mani Ras took the second 21-16. In the first ladies’ games Moorside’s Whelan and Hunt just about had the upper hand in both games, winning 23-21 and 21-15 against Gittins and Vara. Games continued to be close but Forrest’s young team showed their determination winning the final six games.
